Government allows Welsh pubs to apply for World Cup extension
03 June 2014
Having been initially excluded from the Government's World Cup extensions legislation it has finally been announced that all pubs in Wales are able to apply for a free Temporary Event Notice (TEN) for extended hours for England's matches, in particular, their first match of the tournament against Italy on Saturday 14th June 2014.
The Government's crime prevention minister Norman Baker said: “We want everyone to get behind the England football team this summer. The government has already relaxed licensing hours in England for the World Cup and some people in Wales have said they would like longer opening hours too. That is why we have introduced legislation to make it easier and cheaper for pubs across Wales to extend their licensing hours.”
The extension can be applied for every game that may include England with unused applications being allowed to be withdrawn, should England not progress through the tournament.
